Mr. Eugenio Villanueva passed away Friday, May 18, 2012, surrounded by his wife of 46 years, Maria Del Carmen Villanueva; his children and their families, Christina and Ricky Juarez, Eugenio Jr. and Menita Villanueva and Leonard and Adriana Villanueva.
Mr. Eugenio Villanueva was born and raised in Weslaco, Texas on January 27, 1947. He attended local schools and soon thereafter traveled and settled in Watsonville, following the seasonal harvest. He then married his wife Maria of 46 years at the Our Lady of The Assumption Church in Pajaro and created his new life and family. Even after settling in California he remained a devoted "Tejano" until the day of his death.
Through his travels about the West and Mid-West he has seen and experienced more events than the average person has and he loved to pass on his experiences to others through his stories and tall tales. He was a very humble man and would not hesitate to give anything he had and would accept and take in those who entered his life. He gave all that he had to give to his family because he would rather give than receive. Nothing made him happier than to be able to give to his family.
He proudly worked in the agriculture industry and was employed for more than 30 years by Carl Dobler and Sons; he was known as "Marshall" to his co-workers because of his Tejano style, boots and cowboy hats he wore when he first arrived in California.
His family would like to thank Dominican Hospital and Ave Maria Memorial Chapel for their wonderful support and guidance.
He is survived by his brother, Gregorio Ramos of Arizona and his sister, Maria Paula Alvarez of Mexico. He leaves his beloved grandchildren, Ashley and Fred Martinez, Ricky Cabrera, Brianna Ruvalcaba, Stephen Martinez, Clarissa and Jose Rocha, Elias and Lydia Cardona, Eugenio Nevin III, Leonard Joseph Jr, Sadie, Halie and Zoie Villanueva.
great-grandchildren, Chloe Cabrera, Bella and Maliyah Martinez, Jose Jr, Miklo, Nikolas and Alissa Rocha and Melody Cardona. He leaves them to continue his name. He has left them his strength and has shared his wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Julian and Felipa Ramos of Weslaco, Texas.
Visitation will be held at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St, Watsonville on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, beginning at 2 p.m., with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m.
A Mass will follow Thursday, May 24, 2012 at St. Patrick's Church, 721 Main St., Watsonville and Mr. Villanueva will then be laid to rest at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park, 127 Hecker Pass Rd.
