Frances Carabajal Garcia
Frances Carabajal Garcia, 92, of King City, passed away Monday, November 4, 2013, at Eden Valley Care in Soledad. Frances was born April 8, 1921, in Santa Maria.
Frances C. Garcia moved to this area from Santa Maria in 1924. She enjoyed music, dancing, Native American crafts, and pow-wows. She worked at the U.S. Defense Plant as an Aircraft Riveter. She served as a member of Salinan Council. She graduated 8th grade from San Bernardo School in Jolon in 1934.
Frances worked at the Hovden Cannery which is now the Monterey Bay Aquarium on Cannery Row. During WW II, she attended a trade school and went to work for Columbia Steel. There she learned to operate lathes, overhead crawe and rammer. She also learned to drive semi-trucks and hauled sugar beets in the Salinas Valley. Frances learned to speak Spanish. She loved camping and the outdoors. She was very proud of her Native American Heritage.
Her fondest memories are riding her Indian motorcycle, hunting with her dad, going to San Antonio festival with family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her proudest moments were watching her children grow up and having grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frances is survived by her children; son, Ralph C. Garcia Jr. of Greenfield; daughters, Carmen Larson of Tillamook, OR, Delphina Penrod of Old Station, Charlene Holmes of San Juan Bautista and Adelita Garcia of Ashland, OR.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Whitehurst-Grim Funeral Service, 429 Bassett St., King City, CA 93930.
Service will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at Whitehurst-Grim Funeral Service.
