Gleason Carr Louderback

Gleason Carr Louderback, 94, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 24, 2013, with family by his side. He was born March 24, 1918, in Sardinia, Ohio.

Upon graduation, Gleason joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) working across the country on a variety of projects until 1940 when he enlisted in the US Army. He held many assignments including the Letterman Hospital in S.F., as a baker, and later accompanying the wounded across the US. His overseas duties included Okinawa during WWII, Germany in the Big Red 1 Division and Alaska. Gleason's last assignment was Ft. Ord, from which he retired in June 1963 after 21 years of service. He and his family remained in Salinas for several years and during this time he worked for Hampshire Construction and Packwood's Furniture. Gleason enjoyed woodworking, camping and sightseeing.

Gleason is survived by his beloved daughter, Marilyn (Mike) Johnson of Pollock Pines and was the cherished grandfather of Beth (Tony) Correa of Ceres and Glenn Johnson of Campbell; and great-grandfather of Nick Correa (USAF) San Angelo, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marjorie Ruth Louderback; great-grandson, Sean Michael Correa and two brothers. Gleason will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Animal Shelter; 511 Placerville Drive, Placerville, CA or the Veterans Memorial; 130 Placerville Drive, Placerville, CA.
