Jess E. Lopez
Jess E. Lopez, 42, of Salinas, was lost at sea on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in the Monterey Bay while working on a commercial fishing boat.
Jess was born November 28, 1969 in Fort Ord, the son of Cora and George Lopez, he was one of 10 siblings.
He started working as an arborist in 1988. He quickly became an expert and still to this day was the best employee the company had ever had. In 1997, Jess starting working at Pebble Beach; as an arborist he was close to the things he enjoyed, the outdoors and the ocean.
He truly loved the outdoors. Fishing was his most favorite thing since childhood. This love of fishing is what eventually led him to start working on small commercial fishing boats in Monterey in 2010. He spent all of his life in California, always enjoying the outdoors and working hard, never afraid to get his hands dirty.
He is survived by his daughter, Cora Elizabeth Lopez (Beth) of TX and son, Abraham Jess Rodriguez Lopez of TX; parents George and Cora Lopez of AZ; grandmother, Myrt Hoffman of Yuba City; grandparents, Jorge and Lupe Lopez of Marysville; brothers, John Lopez of Salinas, Eddie Lopez, Antonio Lopez and Sampson Lopez, all of AZ, Josef King of AL; sisters, Maria Lopez, Bunny Lopez and Eva Lopez, all of AZ and Monica Root of San Diego. Jess had six nephews and seven nieces; along with numerous loving family and friends.
At his daughter Beth's request, a memorial will be held at a later date. A gathering for family and friends in Jess's honor will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 in Yuba City.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Jess for his children. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made at any Wells Fargo Bank, Account #8711524747.
