John D. Nunes
John D. Nunes, 57, passed away Sunday, April 22, 2012, after his brave battle with liver cancer. He was born on the Island of Sao Jorge of the Azore Islands.
John immigrated with his family on New Year's Eve 1959. John spent his life working in produce throughout the Pajaro Valley working with the Pista Brothers, John Lukerich's various strawberries companies as well as 20 years for Dick Peixoto Company. For the last year he worked as a security guard for Silent Alarm Security.
John was an avid fisherman and loved to work in his garden. He enjoyed showing off his garden's bounty at the Santa Cruz County Fair every year, wining countless blue ribbons for his pumpkins, carrots and herbs.
John is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cindy Nunes; brothers, Albert (Conceisco) of Le Grand, Manual (Joann) of Patterson, Ben (Rosa) of Salinas, and George (Arlene) of Watsonville; mother and father-in-law, John and Jean Tomlinson; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Sandy Tomlinson; as well as numerous aunts, nieces, and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Francisco and Maria Nunes; and brothers David, Frank and Joe.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Sunday evening, April 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville, CA 95076, 831-724-4751.
Memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., at Valley Catholic Church, with Graveside services to follow at Valley Public Cemetery.
