Manuel Sahagun, 74, of Teocuitatlan de Corona, Jalisco, Mexico, entered the presence of the Lord peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2013 in Salinas, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Manuel worked in the fields of Monterey County for more than 50 years. He spent his life working in agriculture, harvesting and caring for the fields of Pezzini and Frank Capurro and Sons. He was a devout Catholic and lector at Madonna Del Sasso Catholic Church, board member of a non-profit housing group MCHI, an avid gardener, doting grandfather, and a lifetime San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan. He was a kind, selfless, generous, caring man. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him, were touched by his big heart and smile. He will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Esther Sahagun; daughters, Carolina Sahagun, Rosie Camacho (Gonzalo), Alicia Flores (Jose), Christina Sahagun; Siblings, Carmen Sandoval (Everardo), Rebecca Ruvalcaba (Javier), Ralph Sahagun; he leaves behind nine grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, friends and family who deeply loved him. His life and legacy will live on in the hearts of his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria Refugio Ochoa de Sahagun and Alfredo Sahagun; and sister, Margarita Sahagun.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, March 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., at Madonna del Sasso Church, Salinas.
