Marian Ruth Dotseth

Marian Ruth Dotseth, 89, of Salinas, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 27, 2012, at home with family by her side from complications related to lymphoma.

Marian was born October 7, 1923, on a farm in Lyons, Nebraska to August and Anna Doescher. She had five brothers. One died at birth, and the other brothers who passed before her are Harold, Ronald, and Howard "Doc" and she lost Harry, her husband of 66 years, on August 23, 2012.

She endured the depression and the dust bowl days and lost both of her parents by the time she was age 15. She lived with other family members until after high school. She moved to California in 1940's and was hired at Hamilton Field Air Force Base in the accounting department, where she met the love of her life, Harry.

In 1952 they moved to Salinas. She was a full time mom and homemaker. She excelled in sewing clothes, loved working in her flower garden every day, and she was famous for her chocolate ice cream pie, her apple pie and her prize winning home grown tomatoes.

When the kids were up and out on their own, she began a job with Monterey County for more than 20 years. She retired as Senior Account Clerk in the Auditor-Controller's Payroll Section. She loved getting all dressed up and going to work and rarely missed a day. She even donated her sick time to other employees who needed time off for health reasons. Upon retiring, she received a Resolution from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors thanking her for her dedication, professionalism, helpfulness, sensitivity, and "just plain good work".

She was the nucleus of our entire family. She was gracious, thoughtful, and the most giving wife, mom, grandma, and friend. She never thought of herself first, always of others. Her motto for any crises was: "Think positive" or "Life goes on". She made an impact on so many of us. The world was a better place with her in it and she will be forever missed. In the last few years, Marian enjoyed many memorable weekends with our friends at Oak Shores, Lake Nacimiento. She and Harry will be greatly missed by all the "Lake" people.

Marian is survived by one brother, Don Doescher of Prairie Village, Kansas; son, Don (Roni) Dotseth of Salinas; daughter, Shelley Cochetti of Gardnerville, NV; grandchildren, Jeff Dotseth of Ogden, UT, Bryan (Julie) Cochetti of Roseville, Chad(Peggy) Dotseth of Kannapolis, NC, Justin (Briana) Cochetti of Portola, Kim Roe of Reno, NV, Kristi Dotseth of San Diego, Tyson Waldron of Reno, NV, Stephen Dotseth of San Diego; great-grandchildren, David Dotseth of Ogden, UT, Kenslie Dotseth of Charlotte, NC, Skyler, River & Riley(twins) Dotseth of Kannapolis, NC, Zoey Mae Cochetti of Portola; great-great-grandchildren, Boston Jeffery Dotseth of Ogden, UT; and nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
