Mary Perez Guzman

Mary Perez Guzman, 88, lifelong resident of Gonzales, passed peacefully at home Wednesday, April 24, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was born November 30, 1924, in Bisbee, AZ.

Mary was raised in Gonzales from the age of 10 years old, attending local schools, including La Gloria Elementary and Gonzales High School. Her professional career was working for the school district as head cook. Mary was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 81 of Gonzales.

Mary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She loved having family gatherings and being surrounded by loved ones. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and hearing their laughter. She loved to cook and made delicious meals for any welcomed guest. She was impeccably well dressed and loved to shop. She also had a strong faith in Jesus and St. Jude. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Susan Guzman (Eddie) Correa of Gonzales; sons, Steve (Antonia) Guzman of Calexico and David Guzman Jr. of Union City; two sisters; four brothers; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Maximiliano and Christina Perez; husband of 59 years, David E. Guzman; son, James David Guzman; sister, Susana; and brothers, Macario, Pete, Maximiliano, Daniel and Manuel.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 5 to 9 p.m., with a Rosary Vigil at 7 p.m., all at St. Theodore's Catholic Church, 125 Center St., Gonzales, CA 93926.

A Celebration Mass will take place Friday, May 3, 2013 at 10 a.m., at St. Theodore's Catholic Church.

Interment will take place at the Gonzales District Cemetery in Gonzales.
