Ruth Elaine Hobar Obituary

Ruth Elaine Hobar

Ruth Elaine Hobar, 86, conquered cancer on Thursday, April 3, 2014. She is now walking the streets of gold holding her Master's hand. Ruth was born July 7, 1927 in Salinas, to Gussie Alsop Tisher and Alvah Tisher.

She was proud of the fact that she was the third generation to be born in Salinas. She graduated from Salinas High School and went on to receive a B.A. from University of California, Berkeley, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. She married Erik J. Hobar in 1950, and was with him until his death in 1993. Ruth lived in Menlo Park for more than 40 years, working for Lane Publishing, Sunset Magazine, for 17 of those years. She was very active in the Girl Scout organization, was a member of the Peter Rabbit Chapter of the Children's Home Society in Salinas, and has been an active member of P.E. O. for well over 50 years. Ruth was a member of Church of the Wayfarer in Carmel for the last 12 years. She loved playing tennis, and did so up until a year ago at Mission Ranch in Carmel. Another passion was Bridge, and she belonged to various bridge clubs. She also enjoyed traveling the world in her later years.

She will be remembered for her charm, beautiful smile, and her graciousness. Her grace and her faith carried her through her illness with a smile and never a complaint. She will also be remembered for her love of sweets, especially See's Chocolates.

She is survived by her daughter, Kären Swanson (Don) of Meridian, ID; her three grandsons, Chris Ellis (Cindy) of Coronado, Pat Ellis of Phoenix, AZ and Erik Ellis of Boise, ID; and good friend, Burton Anderson of Carmel.

A celebration of her life will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at Church of the Wayfarer, Lincoln and 7th, in Carmel.

A very special thank you to Hospice of the Central Coast for being so supportive of her and her family, her wonderful caregivers, Keesha, and Liliani, and her favorite hospice nurse, Matt. Her favorite charities are the Salvation Army and of course, Hospice of the Central Coast.
