Francisco "Frank"

Manuel Basaldua

Francisco "Frank" Manuel Basaldua, 55, of Gonzales, passed away peacefully early Friday morning on Feb. 21, 2014 at home, on his family ranch in Salinas, with his family at his bedside. He was born Dec. 8, 1958, in Weslaco, TX.

Before being diagnosed with cancer two and a half years ago, Frank worked as the Shipping Dock Supervisor for River Ranch Fresh Foods in Salinas, for more than 22 years. Prior to working for River Ranch, Frank was employed at Merit Packing Co. of Salinas for several years and later on, had pursued his own farming operation in Salinas. Frank was very passionate about the agricultural industry; an interest that grew throughout his childhood years, traveling from Texas to various cities in California, working alongside his family. Frank was a proud graduate of Gonzales High School Class of 1978.

Frank's pride and joy was his family. He worked hard to provide the best life possible for his wife and daughters. He enjoyed spending free time working on his ranch and barbequing alongside his brothers, on Sundays. To him, every Sunday was family day. Frank loved sports; he was a big Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Braves fan. Being from Texas, Frank was extremely prideful of his roots; a true Tejano to the end. His last words of wisdom were "Family First."

Frank was preceded in death by his grandparents, Guadalupe Salinas Basaldua, Benito and Christina Martinez; and aunt, Maria Juanita Ruiz Vasquez.

Frank is survived by his wife, Lucy Nunez Basaldua of Gonzales; his three daughters, Dolores Basaldua (Eric)Lawrence of San Diego; Regina Basaldua of Gonzales, Christina Basaldua of Gonzales; granddaughters, Alexia Basaldua, Grace Basaldua, and Rosalind Basaldua Lawrence; parents, Manuel Asuncion Basaldua and Dolores Martinez Basaldua of Gonzales; brothers and sisters, Lupe (Tony) Nunez of Salinas, Maria (Raul) Gonzalez of Gonzales, Rosie (Art) Rosillo of Gonzales, Benjamin (Louanna) Basaldua of Gonzales, Jose (Lupe) Basaldua of Gonzales, Carmen (Luis)Martinez of Salinas, and Juan (Julia) Basaldua of Gonzales; numerous nephews, nieces and extended family members.
