Robert "Bob" Sprugasci
Robert "Bob" Sprugasci, 88, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Robert was born Jan. 25, 1926 in San Jose, to Tony and Lily Sprugasci.
Robert attended San Jose schools, but finished his education in King City, and graduated from King City High School. Robert married his high school sweetheart, Doris Manzoni, in 1946.
For a time, Robert worked for his father-in-law, Joe Manzoni, in farming. With Robert's talent at repairing, he then worked as a mechanic for Johnson's Garage, in Gonzales. For 46 1/2 years, Robert worked for Van Horn Butane Service, later known as Suburban. He worked his way up to the position of Area Manager.
Robert was a creative builder and inventor. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix or redesign to work more efficiently. Robert and his wife enjoyed camping when his children were young. Almost every vacation with family included historical sites, and anything educational. Later, Robert delighted in travels to various places in Europe, which included visits with his Swiss relatives. In Robert's more recent years, he kept busy with the fish that lived in the pond he designed and built. He also created yard art from recycled plates, and made adorable bird feeders from jars and old dishes.
Robert was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Greenfield. He was past Grand Knight for the King City Knights of Columbus, past president of the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Salinas Trailer Club, past president of St. John's Bus Group, and a current member of the Silicon Accordion Club of San Jose.
Robert was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Art and Louie Manzoni, and his sister-in-law, Joan Manzoni.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris; his daughters, Linda (Foster) Hoffman of Salinas; Marie Sprugasci of Marysville; and his son, Rodney Sprugasci of Phoenix, AZ; his brothers, Irving (Dottie) Sprugasci and Anthony (Dorothy) Sprugasci, all of San Jose; grandchildren, Cassandra Moore, Samantha and Caroline Sprugasci, Margaret Ricketts, and Robert Hoffman; great-grandchildren, Abbie and Michaela Ricketts; numerous nieces and nephews; and many cousins in Switzerland.
