Jo Inman, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and nurse, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014. She passed peacefully at home, with her son and daughter at her side.
Jo was born Sept. 2, 1929, in Dozier, TX. Her family moved to California in 1941, settling in Salinas. Jo attended Alisal Elementary School and graduated from Salinas High School in 1947. While in high school, she worked as a volunteer at Park Lane Hospital. It was at Park Lane that she discovered her love of nursing. She trained as an LVN, and worked at County Hospital (now Natividad) until after the birth of her second child. She was active and involved in her children's schools, Sunday school and sports. After her youngest child finished elementary school, she returned to Hartnell College and was accepted into the Registered Nursing program. She graduated, with honors, in 1967. Jo loved being a nurse. She worked at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital until 1982 when she retired to become a full time grandmother. She was an active member of Soroptomist International and was a board member and one time board president of Door to Hope.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lena, and her loving husband, Raymond.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Joanna Inman of Westerly, RI; her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Michael Corlett of Salinas, and daughter-in-law, Janice Inman of Westerly. She is also survived by grandchildren, Ilena Inman. Andrew (Jacqueline Garrett) Corlett, Travis Inman, Lisa (Anthony) Petty and step-grandchildren, Nicole and Gabrielle Dawson. She leaves behind great-grandchildren, Gavin Inman, Genevieve Corlett, Baby Boy Corlett due in May and step-great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Petty and Aiden Austin; her dear friend, Brenda Raspberry and numerous cousins and nieces. She will also be missed terribly by her cats, Max and Sophie.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 12:00 p.m., at the Struve and Laporte Chapel.
Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901.
