Manuel Carmo

Manuel Carmo, 86, of Salinas, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, with his family by his side. He was born May 24, 1927, in Salao, Faial Azores.

He immigrated to the United States in 1959. He worked in the fish cannery in Pacific Grove, worked for several dairies including the Ricca Dairy in Salinas, and worked as a Hod Carrier for Rossi Masonry until his retirement.

He was a hard worker providing for his wife and daughter. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, camping, and attending Portuguese "festas." He was a member of AFDES Portuguese Society, Luso-American and Sacred Heart Church.

Manuel is survived by his wife, Maria F. Carmo and daughter, Maria S. (Albert) Alameda of Salinas; three grandchildren, Brian (Mercy) Oliveira, Christina (Joe) Navarro, and Melissa Oliveira; and his two great-grandchildren whom he adored, Napoleon and Natalia Navarro. Also surviving is his sister, Sister Alice Carmo of Porto, Portugal and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Father Francisco Carmo; brothers, Jose Carmo and Salvador Carmo; and sisters, Maria da Gloria Carmo and Rosa Carmo.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 East Alisal St., Salinas CA 93901.

Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 East Alisal St., Salinas CA 93901.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas CA 93901.

Burial will take place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
