Calister E. Braasch
Calister E. Braasch, 91, of Salinas, also known as "Chickie or Callie", passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014. She was born Sept. 29, 1924, in New York.
Raised in New York most of her childhood. Mount Vernon New York, she moved to California in 1942. She owned many restaurants, The Bluebird, Tip Top, Bee Hive. During the 40's, she worked in the Hogen's Cannery in Monterey. She married Donald Braasch July 1967. During the 47 years of marriage, they joined L.D.S. Church. Many family events camping in the outdoors in Big Sur. Calister loved the outdoors. Making pies. She loved her family and grandchildren very much. She loved animals, she had her special Stallion Horse, she would sing to him in the early morning and he would run down the hill to her. She volunteered at the Salvation Army. She spent many weekends collecting donations for Tavern and Restaurants Friday and Saturday nights to feed the homeless. She attended Beauty School at Salinas Beauty College. She enjoyed singing, music and teaching her grandchildren. She loved the sound of the Harp. Classical Music was her favorite.
When she passed away, her devoted husband, Donald Braasch; granddaughter, Nicole Pedroncelli; close family friend, Jeff McFarlane; daughter, Semone Pedroncelli were at her side in her home.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Braasch; daughters, Ramona Bridgen, Leilani Pepin, Semone Pedroncelli; step-daughter, Orpha Moody; grandchildren, Gavin Thames, Kimberly Burquez, Robbie Pugh Jr., Matthew Pugh, Nicole Pedroncelli; step-grandchildren, Audriana Moody, Jasmne Moody, Giovannia Moody; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Johnny Braasch and George Braasch.
The family would like to thank all the personnel at VNA Hospice and the Del Mar Caregiver Center.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Salinas 2nd Ward, 255 Alvin Dr., Salinas, CA 93906.
Burial will be at Mission Memorial Park Cemetery, 1915 Ord Grove Ave., Seaside, CA 93955.
Memorial donations in her honor may be made to the SPCA.
