Marion Marie Riecks Otis
Tuesday, June 3, 2014, Marion Marie Riecks Otis slipped away from this life and rose to the next, just past dawn.
She was not in any pain or mental discomfort, near her husband of almost 68 years, Joe Otis. By living 92 years, she had a blessed life.
Marion Marie Riecks was born in western Iowa, out on a farm, near Danbury, Mapleton, and Ida Grove.
Once the war started, she and her sister Eileen moved to Los Angeles to work in the factories making airplane rubber fuel tank liners. At a USO dance, she met Joe and they started writing to each other. After the war, they were married in Monterey Park and she moved to Salinas where he was first a house painter, later a painting contractor, and then a paint store owner. Joe built both of the houses the family lived in.
When the babies came, she left Pacific Telephone and Telegraph to become a housewife. She was very active in First United Methodist Church, especially Women's Society of Christian Service, later United Methodist Women.
We love her dearly.
She is survived by her son, Steven of Sacramento; daughter, Cindy Pollard of Roseville (husband, Bill); brother, Dick (Wardeen Riecks); cousin, Betty LaBomba of Fair Oaks; niece, Jackie Selva of Salinas; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
There will be a Memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, 404 Lincoln Ave., Salinas, CA 93901.
