Jean Ruth Call Plinck

Jean Ruth Call Plinck, of Spreckels, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2014. She was 82 years old. Jean was born in 1932 in Duluth, MN, to Charles Call DDS and Mary Flatley Call.

In 1945, together with her parents, brother, Richard Michael, and sister, Mary Kathleen (Jo), Jean moved to southern California. Graduated from Mt. St. Mary's College with a BA, she ultimately arrived in the Salinas area in 1971 with her husband at the time, Bill Plinck, and seven children.

Jean taught elementary school for 20 years, and took great pride in her work with the California Retired Teachers Association, at one time serving as President of the local organization. She was also very involved with St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Spreckels, the town in which she was a resident for almost 30 years. Jean was a member of St. Joseph's choir, a service which brought her great joy, as well as the Salazzi Senior Singers and Monterey Diocesan Choir. Jean also enjoyed membership in the Dixieland Jazz Society and the Salinas YMCA.

Jean will best be remembered for the love that she shared with her children and grandchildren. She could often be found at family gatherings surrounded by her grandchildren playing card games and board games. Jean especially loved playing cards, in particular the game of Bridge. She was involved for many years with local Bridge organizations.

Jean was preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen; her parents; brother, and her beloved son, Gary.

She is survived by her sister, Jo (Fred) Bailey of Westlake Village; her children, David (Josephine) Plinck of Cumming, GA, Julie (Eric) Zimmerman of New Berlin, WI, Katie (Chris) Giles of Burnsville, MN, Tom (Florence Ann) Plinck of Carmel, Dennis (Laurie) Plinck of Salinas, Jennifer (Mike) Wall of Prior Lake, MN; her cherished son, Peter of Spreckels, who so lovingly cared for his mother for the last 19 years; numerous nieces and nephews; and finally, by her precious grandchildren, Ashleigh, Trevor, Megan, Jake, Katie, Cory, Danny, Garrett, Joe, Jack, Jessicalee, Travis, Josh, Justin, and Ella.

Jean will also be missed by her dear friends, Betty and Marilyn, as well as many other friends and extended family who have been faithful and true throughout the years.

Memorial Mass will be held in Jean's honor at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014, at St. Joseph's Parish, 1 Railroad, Spreckels, CA 93962.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church, Capital Campaign Building Fund, P.O. Box 7158, Spreckels, CA 93962.
