Richard Murnighan

On June 12, 2014 we said goodbye to our father and friend, Richard Murnighan, retired Lt. Colonel of the United States Army,

He was a retired Senior Vice President of Monterey Savings and Loan and retired Executive Director and past President of the United Way of the Monterey Peninsula.

Richard earned his Bachelor's Degree at Pennsylvania Military College and his Masters of Business Administration from Golden Gate University.

Richard was a board member at The Kinship Center, former Director and past President of The Beacon House, past co-chairman of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, past President of the Monterey County Private Industry Council, and past President and long- time member of the Kiwanis Club of Monterey.

In 1998, the United Way of the Monterey Peninsula established the Richard L. Murnighan Community Service Award to annually recognize the community service and leadership of a local High School Junior.

He was loved for his generosity, sense of humor, strength of character, professionalism, mentorship and tenacity.

Richard was predeceased by his wife Joan and long-time companion Annie Walby.

He is survived by his two daughters Chris and Cathy, his two sons Rick and Tim and his many grandchildren.

Services to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, June 21 at St. Joseph's Church in Spreckels at 11 a.m. and a reception will immediately follow.
