James L. "Jim" Moore, 67, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2014, in the arms of his wife with family by his side. Jim was born November 21, 1946 in Topeka, Kansas. He graduated from Ephrata High School in Ephrata, WA. In 1964, entered the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. The movie, "We were Soldiers" portrayed his unit. He received two Purple Heart Medals, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He went on to earn his Associate in Arts Degree in Business at Hartnell College.
He met and married his "Sweetpea", Marilyn Pervorse, in 1966 and they married in 1968. They had two sons, Jason and Jaime Moore. He was employed by the U.S. Government at the former Fort Ord as a Leadman in the Paint and Body Shop for almost 20 years.
He did volunteer work for the American Legion Post #589 for many years. He a Webelos Leader for the Cub Scouts and also a Boy Scout Leader. Jim was a member of the American Legion (now Post #31) for over 45 years, and of the Vietnam Veterans of Monterey County, Disabled Veterans, V.F.W., NSRA and AARP, also of the St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church since 1970.
He was a very talented man with very gifted hands. He loved restoring old cars and racing stock cars at the Watsonville Speedway, NASCAR. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel like family. He was a huge animal lover, leaving behind his beloved, Pee Wee, Lily, Niemi, Jasper and Elleigh. He loved his island adventures to Maui with Marilyn, but most of all he loved being together with family and especially teaching his grandchildren.
The Family would like to thank their wonderful neighbors, friends, Sandy of VNA, VNA Hospice RN, Soila and Chaplains, Ken and Sheri, Pastor Herb of St. Ansgar's and Anna of VNA Hospice, who were so comforting and caring to our beloved Husband, Father, and Papa. His last words were "If love could made me well, I"d be cured." He was very loved and will be greatly missed by many. He made it to the finish line here on Earth. He never lost his humor, even at the end. God bless him I love you, Jim!
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of almost 46 years, Marilyn of Salinas; sons, Jason (Becky) And Jaime (Holly) , both of Salinas; five grandchildren whom he loved dearly;
Cassie, Megan and Josh Moore; Adam Graham and his little Mason James Moore all of Salinas; brothers, Patrick (Dawn) Moore and Mike (Carol) Moore all of Moses Lake, WA, Darrel (Jill) Moore of Los Molinas and his baby sister, Doris O'gan of Salinas; his brothers from another mother, Gil Cortez, Dennis Daggett and Dave Guzman; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lester H. Moore and his mother, Laurel Ann Daling Moore Mende.
A Celebration of Life will be held, date and time to be announced.
