Gerald J. Miloch


Gerald John Miloch (Jerry), the grandson of Polish immigrants, was born in Chicago, Illinois to John and Edna Miloch.

In his 21-year career in the Air Force he served as a Master Sergeant in Intelligence Operations during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Viet Nam War, and was awarded two commendations and eight medals including the Bronze Star. He was stationed in Thailand, Germany, Japan, and six states.

Upon retiring from the Air Force he graduated magna cum laude in Business Administration from the University of South Florida in Tampa. He then entered civil service at Fort Ord in the Budgeting department, where he was noted for "untiring service - taking on additional responsibilities - exemplary conduct, worthy of emulation - depth of knowledge, administrative expertise and a positive attitude in every task."

Jerry enjoyed music, singing in groups and choirs throughout his life; dancing, including square and barn dancing in groups with performers such as Red Foley and Eddie Arnold; giving to others, by leading spiritual services in rest homes, leading Bible studies, and establishing an endowment for scholarships at the First United Methodist Church in Salinas; greeting everyone at church; and going to plays and concerts.

He was a member of Kiwanis, receiving the Maurice Gladman Layman Award. He served at Cursillo as part of the kitchen crew. He was affiliated with Good Shepherd and St. Ansgar's Lutheran Churches in Salinas, and the First United Methodist Churches in both Salinas and Pacific Grove. He was a certified Lay Speaker. Jerry made five trips to Jamaica to work with disabled orphans. He supported the family of Evariste Mugabo Sempiga, enabling him to become Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Rwanda.

Jerry is survived by Mary Anne Miloch of Illinois, Betty Miloch of Florida, Joan Miloch of California, and his companion Dianne Appleton of Monterey.

Special thanks are due to Karen Poma, his loyal personal assistant; CHOMP; Hospice of the Central Coast for their care and compassion; the VA Clinic at Fort Ord for exemplary care, especially Dr. Dawn Mudge and Nurse Marge; his grandchildren Barry Blevins and Glenna Blevins Torres for unending assistance; and Craig Torres, Katherine Coopman, Evan and Tiffany Thompson, Brendan Thompson, and Melissa McCabe for support services and many kindnesses during his last months.

He leaves three children: James Miloch of Illinois, and John Miloch and Melody Bitting of Florida; four step-children: Linda Domingo of Hawaii, Joyce Blevins of California, Paul Hall of Colorado and Jeannie Brantley of Florida; 26 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and his beloved cat, "Fluffy".

He was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother and his stepdaughters Susie Redican and Brenda Williams.

Vistation will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 1-9pm at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd. Salinas, CA 93905.

Funeral Services will take place on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 11am at the First United Methodist Church 915 Sunset Drive Pacific Grove, CA, followed by a reception in Grantham Hall.

Graveside Interment with full Military Honors to follow at 2:30 pm the Queen of Heaven Cemetery 18200 Damian Way Salinas, CA 93907.

Jerry wished that any memorials be designated for the Rwandan programs of Bishop Mugabo, in care of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 580 Larkin Street, Salinas, CA 93907.
