Mary "Frosty" L. Jones

Mary "Frosty" Louise Jones went home to be with the Lord our Father on Friday, July 25, 2014. At home with her family by her side, Frosty arrived at the destination she had looked forward to all her life, Heaven. She was passionate about the Bible and planted seeds of knowledge of His word to all.

Frosty was born May 31, 1942, in Detroit, MI. At 3 years of age, she and her two brothers and sister were adopted from an orphanage by wonderful people, James and Helen M. Atkinson. At first she was terribly frightened of these people and would hide behind the drapes - thus her nickname of Frosty. She grew up in Michigan and the New York area. The family moved to Burlingame in the early 1950's. She attended Mills High School in Millbrae where she met and married Douglas P. Jones. She then got a job as a teller in a bank. There she and Doug began a family and lived in San Mateo and then Half Moon Bay. In the early 1970's, they moved to Watsonville and started the family business of Mt. Madonna Nursery growing beautiful roses on Hughes Rd. The family built a new home and she so enjoyed decorating the yard and interior. In 1985, she moved to Salinas and began working as a controller at Tom's Septic Service in Castroville where she worked for 20 years.

Frosty was passionate about life and the Lord. Everything she did, she gave it her all. She was an interior designer and decorator, flower arranger, gracious hostess, loved scuba diving and piloting her own plane. She had a splendid and smart wit about her. She devoted much of her time to helping others through Central Coast Emergency Response Team - CERTS. She could fill a sand bag like a pro! While in Watsonville, she was very active in Soroptimist International. In Salinas, she was active as a Tea Party Patriot. She truly loved her country.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, Douglas Jones; parents, James and Helen Atkinson; and her sister, Sara Pruett.

Frosty is survived by her sons, David R. (Dawn) Jones of Prunedale and William D. Jones of Salinas; granddaughters, Starr Jones of Chico, Katie Jones of Anchorage, AK, Kimberly McFadden of Phoenix, AZ; her brothers, William Atkinson of Citrus Heights and Charles Atkinson of Clarlevoix, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a dedicated mother and friend, always jumping in to help all the while with a smile and a joke. She truly left her mark and memory on those she touched and loved. Frosty will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Dave and Dawn's home on Pollock Lane in Prunedale.

Memorial donations in Frosty's honor may be made to CERTS, PO Box 441, Marina, CA 93933.
