Janice Ruth Dent

Janice R. Dent, 74, passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012, after a brief illness. She was born December 2, 1937, in Hayward, moving to Salinas as a teenager.

She was a graduate of Salinas High School and also attended Hartnell College.

Janice was a founding member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. She loved the fellowship at church and was especially happy to serve as a greeter. She spent many years in the banking industry, working at Security Pacific Bank, Valley National Bank, and Household Financial Services.

Janice loved cats! Her house was decorated with cat figurines and stuffed kitties. But her special place was for K.C. (short for Krazy Cat), a grey long-haired stray that she adopted and loved! Janice was a participating member of the Salinas Women's Club and enjoyed her monthly Bunko games with the ladies.

Janice was a cancer survivor and an inspiration to many friends and family. She would spend Saturdays with her long time friend, Barbara Moon.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Dutra and is survived by a brother, Roger (Linda) Baird; two sons, William [Bill] Powser and Robert [Bob] (Randee McHugh) Powser. She has four grandchildren, R. Shane (Fabby) Powser, Kelly Powser, Christopher Powser and Ryan Powser; and three great-grandchildren, Logan, Eli and Jada.
