Refugio B. Aguirre, 89, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, January 19, 2013. He was born April 13, 1923, in Los Angeles.
Refugio moved to Salinas and started his excavating and grading business in 1961 and retired in 1995. He served in World War II as a guard to General Eisenhower.
He married Rosina V. Dowsette on April 5, 1945, in London, England.
He is survived by three children, Joyce Greenway, Walter Aguirre, Margaret Valdez (Larry); nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Louisa Lopez and niece, Mary Ellen Arroyo.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the Rosary following at 4:00 p.m., at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Memorial Mass will be held Monday, January 28, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Church, 22 Stone St., Salinas.
Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas.
