Nora Jean Van Nest
Nora Jean Van Nest, with all of her grace and beauty, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013, after a brave battle with cancer. She was born January 6, 1934, in Chicago.
She graduated from San Fernando High School and married school sweetheart, Pvt. Robert W. Van Nest 59 years ago. They soon had a family, two sons and a daughter. They moved to Salinas about 39 years ago where she worked for MCOE.
After an early retirement she started to become an artist with oil and canvas. Her talent just got greater every year. She had a HUGE heart, if someone liked one of her paintings, she would just hand it over. If you are reading this, you just may have a painting on your wall. She and my dad loved to travel wherever the big fish were.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Van Nest; her oldest son, Brian Van Nest of Bishop along with his family; her other son, Kurt Van Nest of Salinas and his family; and her daughter. Carrie Christiansen of Moss Landing and her son. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Nora also loved her dogs just like family.
A special thanks goes out to the VNA Hospice of Monterey for all the compassion in the care that was given to my mom.
Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.,at Our Lady of Refuge Church, Castroville.
Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 18200 Damian Way, Salinas, CA 93907.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Monterey.
