Sharon M. Lopus

Sharon M. Lopus, widow of Donald A. Lopus, went to join her spouse on Thursday, February 14, 2013, having died from complications following open-heart surgery. Sharon was born January 30, 1925, in Ft. Bragg, and during the course of their 59 year marriage, Don and Sharon lived in San Francisco, Chico, Salinas, Ukiah, Half Moon Bay, Truckee and finally back in Ft. Bragg.

Sharon worked at Bethlehem Steel in San Francisco while Donald was serving in WW II. She had also been employed by the Union Lumber Co. in Ft. Bragg, Mendocino State Mental Hospital in Talmage, and finally for the State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation while living in Salinas. Their two children, Marjorie and Jerry, were born in San Francisco and Chico respectively.

Sharon will be remembered for being stoically compassionate, for never failing to be practical to a fault, and for her strength and courage in the face of adversities. She loved to read, work her crossword and jumble puzzles daily, to take her friends to the casinos in Willits, and play cards with them on a weekly basis. She thoroughly enjoyed socializing with her friends from Ft. Bragg high school. More than anything else, her family will always admire her hardworking ethics, her strong sense of values and morals and especially for her dry sense of humor, sharp wit, intelligence and for the joy and love she gave to her family and friends.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her daughter, Marjorie Glenn Berta, and her grandson, David Glenn. She is survived by her son, Jerry, and his wife, Janet Lopus. Sharon will also be greatly missed by her four grandchildren, Sharon Glenn Poppoff, Mia Berta Goings, Jeffrey and Michael Lopus and her seven great-grandchildren, Jordan and Lexi Poppoff, Kristine, Kimberly and Kathryn Glenn and Brittany and Daylon Goings.

There will be no formal services for Sharon. Her ashes will be spread along the Mendocino Coast.

Anyone wishing to donate in her memory can do so to the Ft. Bragg Food Bank, P.O. Box 70, Ft. Bragg, CA 95437 or to the , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
