Manuel Moran, 80, of Freedom, died peacefully on Sunday evening, June 30, 2013, of natural causes. He was born November 21, 1932. Manuel had been recovering from gall bladder surgery at the Pacific Coast Rehabilitation Center.
Manuel had been a widower since 1999. He and his wife, Francis Moran, were married for 35 years. He was born in Salinas, the son of Piedad and Tiburcio Moran. He was a lifelong resident of Freedom, once he married.
In his early years, Manuel worked in the refrigeration business in Salinas. He was a dependable and reliable employee. Manuel soon became a lifelong employee, and retired after 30 years. He enjoyed dancing, spending time with his family, and taking walks in his neighborhood. He and his wife loved to travel in their RV, visit family in Idaho, and spending time at Pinto Lake. He had a passion for boxing and watching westerns on television.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Moran (Terry), Joseph Moran (Vera), Nathan Moran (Connie), Lou Chappell (Everett); and numerous nieces and nephews. Manuel is survived by his sister, Carmen Baca, of Salinas.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at Alta Vista Mortuary, 41 East Alisal St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 850 Abbott St., Salinas, CA 93901. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Blalock, Cody Blalock, Aaron Maschmeyer, Ray Pyron, and Jeremy Quintero.
