Federico Gonzalez Nunez, 85, passed Sunday, July 7, 2013, after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by family. He was born March 2, 1928, in Toluqilla, Jalisco Mexico.
Federico González Nunez, brother, father, husband, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather, was a spirited man that loved to share his life's stories. He traveled to the states in his late teens for work and soon thereafter settled in the Salinas Valley as a farm laborer. He moved to Spreckels in 1961 and worked for Willoughby Farms as a tractor driver for 34 years. Upon his retirement, he returned to Mexico in 1995, where he managed and farmed his family's land and became a successful farmer and businessman. Known for [magnunez1] his great sense of humor and endless animated story telling, he had numerous friends from all walks of life. Federico had a gift of making everyone feel welcomed and opened his home to many. He became a mentor to many young men throughout his life. In retirement, he was very charitable, generous of his time, and was an active member in his community. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends watching boxing and soccer.
He is survived by wife, Maria de Jesus Nunez; his children, Federico "Kico" (Mary), Antonio "Tony" (Lupe), Ruben (Rosie), Francisca "Frances" (Charles), Magdalena "Maggie" (Ralph), Robert (Lucy), and Salvador "Sal" (Susie); along with 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Federico will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
The family would like to express gratitude to Dr. Tabbaa and Dr. Fernandez for their care of Federico's well-being.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis St., Salinas, CA 93901.
Rosary service will be held Sunday, July 14, 2013 at 5:00 p.m., in the Struve and Laporte Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be held Monday, July 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at Madonna del Sasso Church, 320 E. Laurel Drive, Salinas, CA 93906.
A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following at the church hall.
