James "Jim" H. Willitts

James "Jim" H. Willitts, 86, of Soledad, passed away peacefully Friday, August 2, 2013, at Eden Valley Care Center in Soledad. Jim was born April 18, 1927 in Oakland and had been a resident of Monterey County since 2004.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was married in July of 1964 to Beverly Nielsen. He was a former resident of Pacific Grove, moved to Santa Rosa, and eventually settled in Soledad. In his early years, he worked for 20th Century Fox Cinemas. He was employed as an insurance adjuster for more than 35 years, working for Brown Bros. and ultimately retired in 1986.

After retirement, he sought out his lifelong dream of glass and wood working; having created numerous display cases and cabinets. Jim was a seven year member of Soledad Rotary, board member of Soledad-Mission Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, and life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Willitts of Soledad; daughter, Susie (Jim) Ambrosimi of Santa Rosa; granddaughters, Arika, Mikaela, and Madison; great-grandson, Carter Christopher Frederick; son, James Willitts; and sister, Joyce Wells of Visalia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Ada Willitts; and brother, Donald Willitts.

Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be sent to Eden Valley Care Center, 612 Main St., Soledad, CA 93960.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m., at Woodyard Funeral Home, 395 East St., Soledad.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 10 a.m., at Soledad Cemetery District, 1711 Metz Road, Soledad.
