Alderman, Goldie N. - Hillsville  
Goldie N. Alderman, 76, of Hillsville, passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Twin County Regional Hospital. Mrs. Alderman was born in Virginia to the late Luke and Laura Slusher Nester. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant son, Floyd Kenneth Alderman, Jr.; brothers, Benton Nester and Jimmie Slusher; and sister, Sylvia Landes Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Alderman of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Susie Alderman of Fancy Gap; daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Tony Young of Hillsville; brother, Woodrow Nester of Richmond; four grandchildren, Justin Alderman, Matthew Young, Dillon Young, and Mark Young; and two great grandchildren, Aaron Young and Samuel Colt Young. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Gardner Memorial Cemetery. Anders, Janetta - Meadows Of Dan  
Janetta Anders, 82, of Meadows of Dan, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at Heritage Hall Laurel Meadows. Mrs. Anders was born in Grayson County to the late Alex and Zuba Mae Bates Rutherford. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clineard Anders. Survivors include her children and spouses, Virginia (Sissy) and David Wyre of Elkton, MD, Jerry and Ada Anders of Elkton, MD, and Frances Anders of Woodlawn; four grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two great great granddaughters; sister-in-law, Faye Isenhower; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial graveside service was held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Pendleton Family Cemetery with Pastor Ernerst Pendleton officiating. Boyd, Elke LaShane - Cana  
Ms. Elke LaShane Boyd, 37, of Cana departed her earthly home on December 16, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 3, 1977 to Eldridge "Elk" and Oma Boyd. She was Director of Child Nutrition for Mt. Airy City Schools and a member of Westview Baptist Church. Elke was much loved by many for her joy of serving and sharing. She had a great respect for nature, and all its gifts reflected in her love for life and her pets, Jake and Mugsy. Her generous spirit enhanced the lives of all who knew her. She is survived by her devoted parents, Eldridge "Elk" and Oma Fleming Boyd; her special brother, Jonathan "Jody" and his wife, Jennifer "her angel on earth"; an adored niece and nephew, Erin Michelle and Joshua Landreth. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Moody Funeral Home with Rev. Darren Slate officiating. A private interment will follow. Crawford, Claribel Marie - Cookeville  
Funeral services for Mrs. Claribel Marie Crawford, age 85, of Cookeville, were held Saturday, December 13, in the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home with Rev. Erin Angel officiating. Interment followed at the Cookeville City Cemetery. Mrs. Crawford died Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at NHC of Cookeville. She was born November 29, 1929 in Carroll County, VA to the late George McKinley and Lala Keith Moles. Mrs. Crawford was a member of the Cookeville First Presbyterian Church. She was raised on a farm in Laurel Fork. After high school graduation, she worked in an orphanage. She later received her bachelor's degree in education at Queens College (Queens University) in Charlotte, NC. She was commissioned to serve as a missionary in Korea where she met her future husband, Army Lt. Samuel Crawford Jr. They married upon returning to the states and she worked as an elementary school educator and raised her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Samuel Crawford Jr.; brother, Raymond Moles; three sisters, Clova Moles, Velda Bobbitt, and Rita Hurst; and nephew, Steve Hurst. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel III and Debra Crawford of Cookeville, James and Stephanie Crawford of Nashville; daughter, Mary Crawford and Rusty Dill of Cookeville; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Etholeen Burchette of Newport, TN, Gana and Randy Blackmon of Heath Springs, SC, Macloeda and Don Hines, and Stella Wood, all of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Whit Crawford, Mariah Crawford, Chynna Crawford, Claetin Smith, James Pollitt, and Candace Pollitt; great-grandchildren, Caleb Key, Abby Pollitt, Laila Pollitt, Tynzli Maxwell, and Cameron Hankes; nieces and nephews, Dan Burchette, Joe Burchette, David Burchett, Donald Ayers, Jay Hurst, Paul Hurst, Tracy Blackman, and Lisa Wood. Ruth O. Farmer, 97, of Hillsville passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Trinity Mission of Hillsville. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edward and Beulah Caudill Owens. Annie (Polly) Hall, 72, of Floyd, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hall was born in Bel Air, MD to the late Paul and Jerry Midkiff Hawks. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Roby Hall. Survivors include her children and spouses, David and Brenda Hall of Salem, Deborah and Jerome Parsons of Atlanta, GA, Dana Mae Alamood of Blacksburg, and Dennis Hall of Floyd; brother and sister-in-law, Darvin and Mary Hawks of Jarrettsville, MD; sister JoAnn Robertson of Hillsville; four grandchildren, Zane Alamood, Summer Hall, Roby Hall, and Sadie Mae Hall; aunt, Arnida Wilson of Maryland; and cousin, Joe Midkiff of North Carolina; Annie Hall, daughter-in-law of the late Violet and Howard Hall of Fancy Gap; sisters-in-law, Faye Burcham, Pearl Lineberry, Bonnie Goad, Goldie Horton, and June Pike; and brother-in-law, Clifford Hall. James Henry Horton, 71, of Hillsville, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Horton was born in Carroll County to the late Henry and Mazie Horton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae Horton; and his brothers and sisters. Survivors include his step children and spouse, Darryl Dalton of Hillsville, Hilda Wooten & husband, Danny of Hillsville, and Waymon (Red) Dalton and wife, Gina of Galax; special friends, Glenn Reed of Michigan and David and Jane Louve of Louisiana; six grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dale Akers officiating. Burial will follow in the Alderman Clontz Cemetery. Jackson, Ethel Marie Goad - Salem  
Ethel Marie Goad Jackson, 92, of Salem, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on December 14, 2015. Born January 9, 1922 in Hillsville, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grosvenor McKinley "Mack" Goad, D.D.S. and Julia Ethel Faddis Goad and her husband of 66 years, Robert Floyd Jackson, Sr., D.D.S. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Bob", Jr. and Lori Bagley Jackson, of Seabrook, SC; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Susan, PhD, and Robert Mills of Salem, VA; and Margaret and Ralph "Bob" Martin of Hillsville, VA; five grandchildren and spouses, Matthew and Tracy Jackson, Virginia Beach, VA; Dana Jackson, Virginia Beach, VA; Timothy Lipton, San Francisco, CA; Robert Martin and Amy Martin, Claudville, VA; and Marie Martin, Christiansburg, VA; four great-grandchildren, Brittany and Madelyn Martin; Cole and Riley Jackson; two step-grandchildren, Lexy and Reanna Carico. Mrs. Jackson was a 1939 graduate of Hillsville High School, Hillsville, Virginia and a 1943 graduate of Radford University with both a BS and BA degree. She married Robert "Bob" Floyd Jackson, Sr. on June 14, 1943. Mrs. Jackson was talented in ceramics, painting, knitting and sewing. She was a voracious reader. She served as den mother for both cub scouts and girl scouts. She enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States and Canada. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Hillsville, VA. She will be greatly missed by her family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Hillsville with Rev. John Duval and Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Wilkinson Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service. Brian Mark Lundy, 44, of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014. Brian was born September 17, 1970 in Galax, Virginia to Eugene and Brenda Utt Lundy. Brian is survived by two daughters Hannah S. Lundy and Cassidy C. Lundy both of King, North Carolina; parents Eugene and Brenda Lundy of Galax, Virginia; paternal grandmother Rosella Lundy also of Galax, Virginia; special friend Susan Burnette; aunt Phyllis Lundy and three special cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Otte & Velma Utt and paternal grandfather Clifford Lundy. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the First Bible Brethren Church, Givens Street, Galax, VA with interment in the Monta Vista Cemetery, 1031 Glendale Street, Galax, VA The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn.

Nuckolls, Eleanor Payne  
Eleanor Payne Nuckolls passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. She was the youngest of four children born to Solomon Luther Payne and Annie Elizabeth Cox Payne. Her parents, along with brothers Paul Bryant Payne and Joseph Neal Payne, preceded her in death. A son, Patrick Gene Nuckolls, predeceased her in 2008 as did her husband Gene Clark Nuckolls in 2009. She is survived by children Gail Elizabeth and husband Bobby Catron, Denver Clark Nuckolls and wife Babette Holder, and Stephen Cox Nuckolls and wife Janice Hall. She is also survived by a sister, Virginia Payne Higgins, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Through her natural gift of music, Eleanor touched many lives as pianist/organist of First United Methodist Church for over fifty years. She performed at countless weddings and funerals and accompanied various music productions/concerts throughout the years. Eleanor was a devoted wife and mother who maintained high principles and values and remained tirelessly devoted to her Church and family. She continued to reside on the family farm where she enjoyed watching the wildlife in their natural habitat. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 13, 2014 at First United Methodist Church of Galax at 11:00 a.m. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the FUMC piano/organ or sanctuary choir fund. A guestbook is available on www.vaughanguynn.com
