Ella Kate Johnson (Katie) Cooley

Ella Kate (Katie) Johnson Cooley, 88 of Hillsville, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Cooley was born in Virginia to the late Andrew Cowan Johnson, Sr. and Ella Eliza Leftwich Johnson. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Franklin Cooley, Sr.; daughter, Jeanne Driver; grandson, Charles Eugene Cooley; six sisters; and three brothers.

Mrs. Cooley attended Milligan College and worked at Sprague Electric, owned a restaurant, and was a receptionist at a doctor's office. She was a member of Hillsville Christian Church and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She loved painting, ballroom dancing, gardening, and crafts.

Survivors include her children, Ellis Franklin Cooley, Jr. and wife, Maria of Murrells Inlet, SC, Roger A. and Jan H. Cooley of Hillsville, Dennis P. and Terri Cooley of Kernersville, NC, Susie Cooley of Hillsville and special friend, Reid Coggins of Concord, NC, and Teresa and Patrick Sullivan of Stokesdale, NC; grandchildren, Dianna Puhr (Josh), Heather Cooley, Darrell Driver, Rachel Cooley, Haley Cooley, Jessica Dillow (Kenny), Justin Sifford, Ashley Shoaf, Jon Shoaf, and Tess Sullivan; six great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Hillsville Christian Church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Amanda Hatfield Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Coal Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 1477 Carrollton Pike, Hillsville, VA 24343 or the Hillsville Christian Church, 120 Edgewood Drive, Hillsville, VA 24343.
