Dr. Ronald Darwin Jones

Dr. Ronald Darwin Jones, 80, of Hillsville, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Wheatland Hills Assisted Living Facility. He was born on February 8, 1933 in Lynchburg, VA to the late C. Olen and Mildred H. Jones. Ronnie moved to Woodlawn as a young child.

Survivors include four sons, David Jones and his wife Karen and their daughters, Emily and Sarah Kate of Forest, Ed Jones and Kay Gay of Lynchburg, Adam Jones of Forest, and Dr. Ethan Jones and his three children, Ethan, Hannah, and Nathaniel of Galax. He is also survived by his former wife, Doris (Dot) Jones.

Ronald graduated from the Medical College of Virginia with degrees in both pharmacy and dentistry. Ronnie began his dentistry practice in Hillsville at the request of Dr. Mac Goad in 1959. Dr. GM Goad (Mac) encouraged him to return to Hillsville because of the need for dentists in the area.

While RD truly loved the practice of dentistry, he was always willing to try new adventures. During his life, he obtained a pilots license, ham radio license, enjoyed snow skiing, hunting, canoeing, horseback riding, and fishing, especially salt water fishing.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Hillsville at 11:00 AM with Pastor Robert Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church P.O. Box 356, Hillsville, VA 24343 or Woodlawn Cemetery 128 Forest Oak Road, Woodlawn, VA 24381.
