Samuel Jackson McGrady, 86, of Hillsville passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC, with his family present.
Jack was born in Wythe County and graduated from Jackson Memorial High School. He was a talented mechanic who loved God, his wife and family, his farm and cows, the land and nature. He was a long-time member of Fairview Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the New River Valley Polled Hereford Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman S. and Flora Frost McGrady; brothers Harry Lee and Guy; and sister Mary Ruth Hubbard Owens.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Mary Lee Carter McGrady; son and spouse, David McGrady and Katharine McKee of Silver Spring, MD; granddaughter Anna of New York City; and grandson Charlie of Los Angeles; in-laws Helen W. McGrady, Evelyn Hill, Harry and Doris Jennings; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at Fairview Presbyterian Church in Hillsville with Pastor Debbie Ginder officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 to 11 am. Burial will follow in Wilkinson Cemetery. Please no flowers.
