Curry Thomas Mitchell, 88, of Hillsville, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab. Mr. Mitchell was born February 17, 1926 to the late Blake and Etta Mitchell. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith D. Mitchell; brother, Hoover M. Mitchell; sister, Guida Huff; and sister and brother-in-law, Ibra and Gleve Huff.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Worth Hall of Fancy Gap and Charlotte and Clyde Collins of Barren Springs; sons, Ivan D. Mitchell of Christiansburg and Larry T. Mitchell of Hillsville; brother-in-law, Erbie Huff of Indian Valley; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Curry retired from Radford Army Ammunition Plant in the year of 1988 after 37 years of service. He loved gardening, canning and cooking. He also loved living in the Sylvatus community and visiting his neighbors and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. David Bays officiating. Burial will follow in the Shockley Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM until service time. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Shockley Cemetery Fund in c/o Barbara Shockley 156 Mourning Dove Drive, Hillsville, VA 24343.
