Betty Irene Nichols Alderton went to be with her blessed Lord and Savior on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015.
Betty was born at home, and delivered by her grandmother Spencer, on Jan. 5, 1927, to the late Richard G. Nichols and Margaret B. (Wolfe) Nichols in Westville.
She and her beloved little sister Dorothy Elaine grew up playing on the family farm and singing hymns in church.
Betty was a wonderful student and graduated from Beechwoods High School as Valedictorian, Class of 1945, and then went on to obtain her LPN, as part of the first nursing class coming out of Jeff-Tech, along with her sister-in-law, Alice Fordoski, where they were both well-liked by their schoolmates.
Betty served her community as a nurse at the Brookville Hospital for 23 years, where she trained new nurses still working there today.
Betty married the late Russell Corbin Alderton Sr. at the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church in Falls Creek on June 26, 1948, and they were happily married for 57 years before Russell's passing in 2006. They started their lives together in Clearfield, before moving to Reynoldsville and then eventually settling in Roseville in 1958 where they raised their five sons.
Betty is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law: Ronald and Joan, Randall and Sandra, Richard, Rodger and Jill, and Barbara, all of Roseville. Additionally, Betty is survived by 11 grandchildren: Steve and Melinda Alderton, of Roseville; Brad and Megan Alderton, of Washington, Iowa; Tim Alderton, of Raleigh, N.C.; Missie and Dan Rankin, of Kingsville; Chris and Katy Alderton of Roseville; Dan and Nikki Alderton, of Roseville; Stephanie and Ryan Heffner, of Reynoldsville; Zachery Alderton, of Roseville; Emily and Ben Coulson, of Summerville; Erin and Adam Hepfl, of Roseville; and Elizabeth and Josh Clinger, of Roseville – and 21great-grandchildren who all affectionately knew her as "Grammie." Betty is also survived by her life-long best friend, her little sister "Aunt Elaine," as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom Betty cared for deeply.
Betty was cherished by all those that knew her, but her lasting legacy will truly be the fact that she generously loved, cared for and kept careful track of so many people. She always put God first and encouraged all those around her to do the same. Betty was a pillar of her church at Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Corsica, serving as a ruling Elder and participating in the Women's Circle group.
She was also a member of the Roseville Grange and the Women's Missionary Society at the Roseville Independent Chapel.
Betty truly lived by Micah 6:8 "And what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" Throughout her life, and in all situations – good or bad – Betty kept her strong faith, her quick wit, her sense of humor and a completely positive attitude.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the wonderful care given by the very compassionate staffs at Brookville Hospital, Jefferson Manor, Brookville Home Health Care, Brookville EMS, Corsica Volunteer Fire Co. and UPMC Presbyterian.
In addition to her husband, Russell, and her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her eldest son, Russell Jr. and her granddaughter, Susan.
