Burton "Burt" M. Norris, 83, Curwensville, passed away Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, after a short illness.
Born Aug. 8, 1931, in Curwensville, he was the son of Foster G. "Doc" and Carrie Moose Norris.
He served his country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He was a life member of the Greenville Church of the Brethren where he served as a deacon, and a Sunday school teacher and was also a Sunday school superintendent.
He volunteered his time for numerous years at the Clearfield County Fair, was a past chairman and committee member of the Grampian Days Celebration, played in the Grampian Band and also helped with the Grampian Community Vacation Bible School.
On Nov. 2, 1951, at the Greenville Church of the Bretheren he wed Charlotte "Shirley" Wolfe. She preceded him in death Oct. 29, 1984.
He was the last member of his generation.
He is survived by a daughter, Brenda D. Rumfola and her husband, Joseph "Joe," of Curwensville; two grandchildren, Bryan Rumfola and his wife, Ann, of Memphis, Tenn., and Marcy Gilligan and her husband, Jeremy, of Woodstock, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Delaney Gilligan, both of Woodstock, Ga.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Olen "Auddie" and George Norris; and a sister, Marie Shaffer.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28 at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the Greenville Church of the Brethren. Funeral services for Mr. Norris will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor Leslie Bloom officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by member of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
