Chester A. Welsh, 90, and his wife Doris M. Welsh, 87, Westville Road, Brockway, both died less than a day apart after sharing what would have been 70 years of marriage on Feb. 2, 2015.
Chester was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Grove Summit (Beechwoods) Jefferson County, the son of the late William Walter and Eva Cable Welsh. He was married Feb. 2, 1945, to Doris M. Thompson. She died Jan. 26, 2015, at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Retired, he had been employed as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and all types of mechanical work.
Doris was born May 25, 1927, in Ridgway, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Gladys Rhodes Thompson. She was married to Chester A. Welsh and he died Jan. 27, 2015, also at Penn Highlands DuBois.
Retired, she had been employed at Brockway Glass and as a seamstress at Paris Manufacturing. She also filled the role of a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening.
They were members at the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church.
Chester and Doris are survived by four daughters: Janet Orris and her partner, Dennis Liegey, of Brockway; Karen Ross of Brockport; Kathleen Black and her partner, Richard Weidow, of Brockway; and Kimberly (Dave) Lightner also of Brockway; eight grandchildren: Tiffany Chappel, Matthew Orris, Bryan Ross, Brent Ross, Karllette Puhala, Christina Facchine, Chad Facchine and Chelsea Facchine; and seven great-grandchildren.
Chester is also survived by two sisters, Anna Belle Preston of Brockway and Louise (Victor) Lundberg of Falls Creek.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Margaret Daugherty, Elizabeth Geraldi, Dorothy Lundberg and Nancy Welsh; and five brothers: James, William, Fred, Charles and Robert "Mike" Welsh.
Doris was preceded in death by a brother, LaRue Thompson.
Friends will be received from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor David Nagele officiating. Burial will follow in the Beechwoods Cemetery at Falls Creek.
