George Richard "Dick" Harmic, 85, Longwood, Fla., formerly of Falls Creek, Pa., died on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Hospice of the Comforter.
Born Nov. 7, 1931, in Curwensville, Pa., he was the son of the late Thorton and Alice M. Shaffer Harmic.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Leach, of DuBois, Pa., and Betty Leonard, of Jamestown, N.Y.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.
On Feb. 12, 1955, he married Dorothy P. Naugle. She survives.
He is also survived by his son Richard (Mary), of Oviedo, Fla.
Dick had two grandsons that were his pride and joy – Matthew (Kristin) of Tampa, Fla., and Andrew (Dana) of Casselberry, Fla. He also was blessed with three great grandchildren: Trever and twin girls, Leah and Lily, of Tampa.
Dick was retired from Owens-Brockway Glass and moved to Sebring, Fla., in 1998. His favorite activity was playing softball in the senior leagues around the state of Florida. He played until the age of 80. He also was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and enjoyed cheering for them whenever possible. He regularly attended the Community Alliance Church of Winter Springs, Fla., and the Falls Creek United Methodist Church when living in Pennsylvania.
Burial will be in the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, Fla. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Comforter, 605 Montgomery Road, Altamonte Springs, FL 32714 or to the donor's choice.
