Jacqueline Schoch Obituary

Dr. Jacqueline L. Schoch, 85, DuBois, a lifelong educator and person who believed in service to her community, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015, at her home.
Born July 17, 1929, in DuBois, she was the daughter of Horace G. Schoch and Cora E. Wineberg.
Born and raised in DuBois, Schoch was a graduate of the DuBois High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in health, physical education, and recreation from Penn State, then followed with graduate degrees in counselor education and psychology. She earned a certificate from the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management in 1979.
Dr. Schoch's 20 years of service as an employee of Penn State culminated with her retirement as campus executive officer at Penn State DuBois in 1990. Before that, she was associate director of academic affairs at the campus. Prior to joining the staff at the campus in 1970 as assistant director of resident instruction, Schoch had served as director of instruction, director of guidance, guidance counselor, dean of girls, and as a history and girls' physical education teach for the DuBois Area School District. She also taught girls' phys-ed for the Ford City Area Schools.
Dr. Schoch was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ and a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association, the National Education Association, and the Girl Scouts of America. She was a charter member of the DuBois Area Historical Society. Schoch also served on the board of directors of the DuBois Senior Center and the board of directors of the DuBois School District Alumni Association.
Her service to the community was well documented. Dr. Schoch was a member of the board of directors of the Keystone Tall Tree Girl Scout Council, a director and campaign co-chair for the DuBois Area United Way, and a member of the Maple Avenue Hospital board of directors. She served as vice president for the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging, as chairperson of the Pennsylvania Electric Company Consumer Advisory Committee, and as scholarship chairperson for the Rotary Club of DuBois. She was treasurer for the DuBois Educational Foundation, a member of fourteen different committees for the Faculty Senate of Penn State, a member of the Middle States Evaluation and Accreditation Teams for both secondary and post-secondary institutions and a member of the consistory and an elder for St. Peter's United Church of Christ.
Her honors and awards reflected her dedication to the community. She received the Woman of Honor Award from the Keystone Tall Tree Girls Scout Council, the Citizen of the Year Award from the DuBois Area Jaycees, and the Wilkinson Award for Administrative Excellence from Penn State. Dr. Schoch was named Boss of the Year by the International Secretaries Association, was the first recipient of the Athena Award presented by the DuBois Area Chamber of Commerce. She was chosen for membership in seven honorary societies and was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Penn State DuBois Alumni Society. She was the first woman inducted into membership in the Rotary Club of DuBois and later served as president of that organization and became a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary as well.
Dr. Schoch is survived by three sisters, Shirley Frattali, Marilyn Dietz, and Virginia Dietch, all of DuBois, and by numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Jacqueline L. Schoch Scholarship Endowment for Education Majors at the DuBois Campus of the Pennsylvania State University.

Jackie was always gracious and kind to me. She loved Penn State DuBois and demonstrated that devotion in many ways, especially in support of students. She served as CEO of the campus when there were very few women in leadership roles in higher education. She paved the road for me and other women to serve in leadership positions and she will always hold my admiration and respect for her many achievements.Jackie was always gracious and kind to me. Dear Family Members,

I just fund out Jackie has passed. She hired me at Penn State DuBois in 1986. She was a good boss! After she retired,I was always happy to see her and she seemed glad to see me. We would catch-up. Jackie was always interested in how my son and I was doing. She will be missed.

Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest sympathy,

Tremendous sadness at the loss of Jackie Schoch as and educator, community icon, and humanitarian. She cared about her staff at PSU and all the students. She helped many to find their way to a college education. I never would have gotten my first degree at PSU without the help and assistance of Jackie. Today, I have a masters degree which never would have been possible with some divine intervention on Jackie's part.
One of her loves was the Girl Scouts and she made a commitment to help these young ladies to have the experience from scouting and a good organization to give these girls opportunities.
She will be deeply missed.

When one recalls their childhood, certain people stand out that have shaped you into an adult. Jackie was that person to me. I was active in Girl Scouts and she gave me guidance to be a good person, to have goals for your life and most of all, to value friendships. How do you find the words to say what is in your heart and tears? Just thank God that our paths crossed. T. Kay (Mauk) White DAHS Clsss of 1960.

Jackie Schoch was a great human being, a friend, and a mentor.Jackie was a person that people wanted to do for.

She didn't nag or order people to do things. Her enthusiasm was contagious. She would never ask someone to do something that she wouldn't do.

I will miss her very much. She was a great warm human being.

Memories of knowing how blessed we all are having had this brilliant woman in our lives! Remember cooking outdoors at Girl Scout camp; gym classes; her untold heartfelt sincere classes about living and learning life; shared exciting visits; breaking bread together; "her girls" circle of prayer at camp as recently as last September; her attitude and caring heart for service she graciously extended to all humankind. She was a profound leader, honorable teacher and professor. She was a great friend!

We should continue to uplift others as her lasting legacy and gift to us.

My sincere condolences to her sisters and her family. She is taking a well-deserved rest in the love of His Spirit.
