Martin P. Shea, age 93, of Hellertown, Pa., originally from Jefferson County, Pa., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, as a patient of the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa.
Martin was born on Jan. 28, 1925, to the late Martin P. and Freda (Yoast) Shea in Vandergrift, Pa. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Navy. In November of 1948, he married Muriel (Guthrie) Shea; Muriel preceded him in passing. Martin was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, camping, boating, hiking, and just about everything else that nature has to offer. He was a great carpenter that loved crafting bird houses for his friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed teaching about wood crafting and he shared his love for this by teaching his son and others how to build. He had an eye for a great shot, and he used this skill in photography, particularly capturing the beauty of nature. He very much enjoyed reading as well. Martin will be missed.
He is survived by one son, Michael A. Shea; two grandsons, Jason Shea, Marc Shea; four great-grandchildren: Jonah Shea, Arianna Shea, Eron Shea, and Iain Shea.
In addition to his wife and parents, Martin is preceded in death by one infant son, Edward Shea and one brother, Allan Shea.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, from 5 – 8 p.m., at the McKinney – d'Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825. A funeral service with military honors will be held on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018, also at the funeral home, beginning at 1 p.m., and officiated by Pastor Chuck Jack.
