Mary Ellen (Smith) Shaffer, 87, DuBois, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016, at Christ the King Manor.
Born Nov. 21, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William Wallace and Edna Jean (Heberling) Smith.
She married Robert C. Shaffer on March 20, 1954. He preceded her in death on July 30, 2008.
Mary Ellen graduated from Sandy High School. She was a homemaker and worked for the Civil Defense Organization of Clearfield County. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed cooking and having family picnics on the back patio. During her stay at Christ the King Manor, she was active in many activities. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Robert W. (Connie) Shaffer of DuBois, Rena Lee (Dennis) Adamson of DuBois, Randall S. Shaffer and his fiancée, Melissa Workman, of Morgantown, West Virginia, and Rodney L. (Bobbie) Shaffer of DuBois; her grandchildren, Sarah (Bradley) Curry, Brent Shaffer, Chris (Amy) Gilga, John Gilga, Sinjin Shaffer, and Gabby Delzangle; and two beloved great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Lee "Buddy" Smith.
Friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Adamson Funeral Chapel, Inc., DuBois, and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the chapel at Christ the King Manor. A funeral service will follow Thursday's visitation at 11 a.m. at Christ the King Manor with Reverend Lance Tucker officiating. Interment will be in Morningside Cemetery.
