Mary Martha Smith Bussard, 93, of RD Reynoldsville, passed away April 5, 2016, at Jefferson Court.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1922, in Reynoldsville, the daughter of the late Charles Ernest and Ruth (Williams) Smith. On Aug. 20, 1943 she married Harvey G. Bussard, who passed away on Jan. 9, 2006.
Mary graduated from Beechwoods High School, where she was a member of the women's basketball team. After high school, and starting a family she received a certificate of proficiency by the U.S. School of Music for Accordion.
She served as a past judge of the elections for Washington Township for many years. She was a homemaker and music instructor for the accordion.
She was a member of Beechwoods Presbyterian Church, Women's Association and Choir. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years.
Mary played the accordion and later the keyboard along with her husband, Harvey and several other members of the Keystone Ramblers and Silver Tones square dance bands. Mary and Harvey played at Tom Mix Birthplace festivals, various area nursing homes and local celebrations. She enjoyed music, sewing, reading, crocheting and cooking.
She is survived by her four children: Ronald Bussard of Reynoldsville, Martha Fitzgerald of McSherrystown, Pa., Janet and her husband Kenneth King of Brookville and Raymond and his wife Sherri Bussard of Nashville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren: Jeff Bussard, Karen Brown, Brenda Saunders, Sharon Bussard, Janice Elder, Brian Fitzgerald, Diane Brannan, Kenneth Scott King, Michelle Burtner, Shawn King, Jason Pickering, Jeremy Pickering and Lora Pickering; 28 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Taube and Lena Ruth Cooper; and a brother, Raymond J. Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers: Melvin Smith, Jesse Smith and Samuel Smith and four sisters: Margaret Miller, Ethlyn Wayland, Clara Miller and Ila Arlene Perrin.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Beechwoods Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Koehler officiating. Burial will be in Beechwoods Cemetery.
