Ray W. Peace, 84, Big Run, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, at his home.
Born July 30, 1930, in McGees Mills, he was the son of the late August Albert and Martha Florence Bouch Peace. Ray was married to Josephine Dolores Penvose in October 1960. She preceded him in death Jan. 6, 1999, after nearly 39 years of devoted marriage.
Mr. Peace worked for Bowser Lumber Company as a debarking machine operator before his retirement.
He was also a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War.
Mr. Peace was both a lifelong member of VFW Post 9044 in Big Run and the Big Run Volunteer Fire Co.
He relished spending time and visiting with his daughter, Pamela and his grandson, Josh Wachob and wife, Tish, of Big Run.
Ray also enjoyed the challenges of crossword puzzles and trying his luck with lottery tickets.
He is survived by four children: One daughter, two stepdaughters, and one stepson: Pamela Wachob and her husband, Kevin, of Big Run; stepdaughters, Doris Luce and her husband, Terry, of Home and Naomi Kallas and her husband, James, of Punxsutawney; and stepson, Kenneth Smith and his wife, Debra, of Universal City, Texas. Ray had four sisters, three of whom survive him: Imogene Manners of Nevada, Wilma Yohe of Big Run and Ruby Geer of Marienville.
Ray is survived by 11 grandchildren: Joshua (Tish) Wachob, Michelle Gaulden, Matthew Smith, Monique Semersky, Tina Wheeler, Denise Thomas, Tracy Hartman; Thomas, Todd, and Robbie Young; and Melissa Roberts. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Wagner.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at Brenda D. Shumaker Funeral Home Inc., Big Run.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at the funeral home officiated by Joseph Buterbaugh.
Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill United Brethren Church Cemetery in Punxsutawney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Peace's memory to the Big Run Volunteer Fire Co.
