Richard E. Zimmerman, 65, of Punxsutawney, passed away quietly on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at Christ the King Manor in DuBois after succumbing to a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Richard was born on Dec. 12, 1950, in DuBois, a son of the late Earl Euclair and Della Mae Mohney (Trayer) Zimmerman. He married his wife, Marilyn on April 17, 1993, who survives.
Richard was a humble man who was quietly, but very proud of his Native-American heritage having been accepted by the Tolowa Tribe of Crescent City, Calif. Richard was accepted by the tribe as a Tolowa Dee-ni' (Citizen), a rare honor. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and "tramping" through the woods with his grandchildren. Richard retired from PennDOT where he worked as an operator. He and his family attended the Countryside Baptist Church.
Richard is survived by his wife Marilyn of 23 years; his stepson, Brad Curry and his wife Traci of Wake Forest, N.C.; his stepdaughter, Becky Gresock and her husband Matt of Punxsutawney; his brother, Dr. Terrance Zimmerman of Dover, Del.; and his grandchildren: Gage and Derek Gresock, and Austin and London Curry.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his son, Eric Zimmerman.
Friends will be received at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., of Punxsutawney today, Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at 11 a.m. and officiated by Pastor Don Pendley.
