Warren Keith Martin died Monday, April 3, 2017, of natural causes at his home, Tel Hai Retirement Community, in Honey Brook, Pa. He was 98.
A retired Presbyterian minister, the Rev. Martin was born Dec. 1, 1918, to Albert Paul Martin and Lillian Danielson Martin in Sharpsville, Pa. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Washington & Jefferson College in 1942 and from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1945. He was ordained that year.
In 1943, he married Eileen Mary McCann, whom he'd met in fifth grade. Mrs. Martin, an elementary school teacher, died in 2005.
Mr. Martin served as minister in four western Pennsylvania Presbyterian churches. Then he became Director of Development at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, retiring in 1983.
He endowed the Eileen and Warren Martin Lectureship on Emerging Theology at the Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, N.Y. He also funded the Eileen M. Martin Scholarship at Indiana University of Pennsylvania to honor his wife of 60 years, a school teacher.
He is survived by children Claudia Williamson (Art), Keith, David (Saleté) and Tom (Sarah), 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Mr. Martin's ashes, along with those of his wife, will be interred in the family's Hermitage, Pa. plot. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no memorial service.
