Alice Henry

Alice Henry, 87, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to those in need, left this world peacefully in the presence of family on Tuesday morning May 28, 2013.

Her favorite saying during her life was, "Earth is the training ground for Heaven." Born Dec. 29, 1925, Alice grew up as one of eight children in a small bungalow in South Vineland and lived most of her life in Millville. She worked for many years at the Vineland Skating Rink in the snack bar and worked at Haars Health Food for more than 30 years, retiring only two years ago.

Her favorite pastime was helping others. She dedicated her life to being kind to anyone who was in need. Her wisdom and knowledge of holistic and natural treatments was her legacy. She worked tirelessly to increase her knowledge and help countless people who craved alternative methods for healing. She loved knowing she was able to help. Alice was always there to help without being asked. She wasn't the type who wanted to be repaid for any kindness. She always believed that if you helped someone you do it without asking for anything in return. It was a joy for her to give, and she wished everyone would learn to experience that kind of joy in their life time. Another of her favorite sayings was, "Treat people the way you would like to be treated."

She is predeceased by her husband, Robert Henry; her son (in-law), Kurt A. Ulbrich; two sisters, Rosalie and Shirley Stites; two brothers, Harry and George Stites; and her parents, Harry and Emma Stites.

Alice is survived by two sisters, Frances Robbins and Judy Schwegal of Millville; one brother, Jack Stites of Millville; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her children, Robert and Linda Henry, Shirley and Wayne Simpkins, Donnie and Carol Henry, Ken and Barbara Henry, Kurt and Robin Henry, Joe and Lisa Henry, and Alice L. Ulbrich. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held privately on Thursday at the Barr Funeral Home in Millville. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
