George E. Freeman Sr., 93, of Millville passed away Monday evening, Sept. 9, 2013, at his residence with his family by his side.
Born in Millville to the late George and Edna (Berry) Freeman, he was a lifelong resident.
He served in the Civil Conservation Corps in Cape May County. Mr. Freeman then began serving in the U.S. Marine Corps prior to the start of World War II, and served as a private 1st class in the Pacific Theatre. He participated in Battles at Eniwetok Atoll in the Marshall Islands, serving a total of four years.
For many years, he worked as a machine operator for Wheaton Glass Co. and retired in 1981. He then worked part-time for the Millville Housing Authority in the Maintenance Department.
He was a member of the GBBA Local No. 7. He loved his family, camping, fishing, clamming and he was an Eagles fan.
Mr. Freeman is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Doris (Gale); his children, Nancy Hanlon and husband Paul of Millville, George E. Freeman Jr. and Mary of Laurel Lake, and Carol Reiser and husband Charles of Millville; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad St., Millville. There will be a viewing on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Millville.
