George John Philip Tomasso Jr.

George John Philip Tomasso, Jr., age 93 of Vineland passed away peacefully on Thursday March 6, 2014, surrounded by family at Inspira Hospice, Bridgeton.
George was born in Vineland on January 25, 1921 to the late George Sr. and Elizabeth (Buck) Tomasso. His family moved to Beach Haven, NJ in 1929 where he graduated from Barnegat High School. After high school, George entered the US. Army Air Corps and became a flight crew chief engineer for the B-24 Bomber airplane during WWII
. After his military service, he continued in the family construction business and began the George Tomasso Jr. and Sons contracting business of Vineland. George operated this business for over 45 years and was well known for his meticulous carpentry skills and craftsmanship. He personally built his family home in which he and his wife raised their children.
George enjoyed many vacations with his 8 children and wife Connie in their younger years. He loved music, singing, and collecting antiques. He also loved gardening and working in his shops. George and Connie spent many glorious hours sitting outside and admiring their beautiful yard and gorgeous flowers. George took great pride in making his home magnificent. The family loved to gather around George's player piano for the many wonderful Tomasso sing-a-longs. George was a resident of the NJ Memorial Veteran's Home for the past one and a half years where he forged many friendships playing poker with his buddies.
George was predeceased by his sister, C. Louise Tomasso, his brother, Richard Tomasso, parents-in-law, Alfred and Edith Lera, and his brother-in-law, Bernie Goldstein.
George is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Constance (Lera) Tomasso of Vineland; his 8 children, Georgeanne McClennen and her husband David, Steve Tomasso and his wife Gaye, Nancy Tomasso, Joyce Nelson and her husband Carl, Keith Tomasso and his wife Melanie, Patricia Tyler and her husband Danny, David Tomasso and his wife Tiffany and Brian Tomasso and his wife Penny. George is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Dawn McClennen (Tom), Brian McClennen (Tracy), Christopher Tomasso (Michelle), Jason Tomasso, Amy Ramirez (Junior), Kurt Tomasso, Krystal Tomasso, Daniel Tyler (Jen), Taylor Tomasso, Morgan Tomasso and Eve Hollifield; 8 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Christopher, Nicolena, Dylan, Chloe, Alana, Kaylee and Skyler. Also by his sister, Evaline Goldstein and sisters-in-law; Marie Tomasso and Joyce Piovano and her husband Dominick. And by many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday March 15th at 10:30 am at the Wainwright-Bernhardt Funeral Home, 1024 E. Landis Ave. Vineland, with Rev. Ellen C. Rutherford officiating. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery. Family and friends may gather on Saturday from 9:00-10:30 am at the funeral home.
