Herminio Escobar Sr.

Herminio Escobar Sr., 81 of Vineland went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 25, 2013, in South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center, Vineland.

Herminio was born in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, to the late Ramon and Celia (Vargas) Escobar Sr. and lived in Vineland most of his life.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

Prior to retirement, Herminio was a presser and supervisor for L&M Clothing Co. and Crown Clothing Co., both of Vineland, for more than 50 years.

He was a deacon and elder of La Inglesia Presbyteriana Hispana Bet-El of Vineland, where he enjoyed spending time at the church.

Herminio also enjoyed baseball, fishing, sharing time with family and friends and especially his grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister, Juanita Escobar, in 2012.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Aida (Mercado) Escobar of Vineland; three sons, Arnaldo "Arnie" Escobar, Ivan Escobar and Herminio "Junior" Escobar Jr. and his wife Malissa, all of Vineland.

Also two grandchildren, Justin and Devinne at home; brother, Ramon Escobar Jr. and his wife Rosie; and sister, Efiginia Escobar, all of Barceloneta, P.R.; and special niece, Gladys Quinones, and aunt, Gloria Escobar, both of Vineland.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from La Inglesia Presbyteriana Hispana Bet-El, 410 S. Fourth St., Vineland, with the Rev. Freddy Jara officiating. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery, Vineland.

Visitation hours are Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and again Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church.
