Hugh L. "Pop" "Joey" Allen, 69, of Millville died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family members.
Pop was born in Millville and was a 1963 graduate of Millville High School. Pop proudly served four years in the Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Manley. Pop retired from Foundry Service of Vineland as a truck driver, but had been a driver for over 35 years with various companies. He also had traveled thousands of miles without an accident. Pop was also a lifetime member of the Millville Elks Lodge No. 580.
Pop's true love and passion were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His life was dedicated to his family; making sure they had what they needed, picking up the kids from school or just hanging out with them gave Pop joy in his heart. He was hard working and a dedicated family man. As a truck driver, he had friends all over, and he would talk with you for hours, IF you let him. He was a gentleman and had a great sense of humor. Pop will be sadly missed by his family and close friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joan; four children, Susan (Lionel), Nadine (Joe), William (Arlene) and Hugh Jr. (Kim); seven grandchildren, Melody (Mark), Tiffani (Mike), Zachary, Tyler, Donnie, Joey and Tori; and three great-grandchildren, Benny, Armanti and Mikey. He was predeceased by his parents, Larry and Hilda; and brother, James.
A celebration of Pop's life will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Elmer Diner. The family would appreciate it if you contact them, if you will be attending. Written condolences may be sent to: email@example.com.
