Frank J. Flashel, 81, of Vineland passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Susan (Rebb) Flashel. After finishing school, Frank joined the Navy and served as the chef onboard one of the ships deployed during the Korean War. He lived in Milford, Delaware and worked for Asplundh Tree Company. After meeting his beloved wife Barbara, he moved to New Jersey. Frank worked for Owens-Illinois until he retired in 1994. Frank was a former member of the North Vineland Fire Department Co. No. 3 and a member of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Parish-Church of St Rose. He was a avid fisherman on his boat the "Bar-Fran," he enjoyed gardening and was praised for his award-winning tomatoes. He also enjoyed his Philadelphia sports teams. Frank's greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Frances and James Petronglo; grandson, James Petronglo Jr.; grandson and wife, Steven and Katie Petronglo; granddaughter, Stephanie Petronglo; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Steven Jr.; sister-in-law and husband, Jane and Charles Roth; nephew and wife, Chris and Nadien Flashel; nieces, Dawn Gaynor and Suzette Umlauff; and several other nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his wife in 2011, Barbara (Dauito) Flashel; parents, Joseph and Susan (Rebb) Flashel; brother, Joseph Flashel; and sisters, Frances Flashel, Catherine Flashel and MaryAnn Lindsey.
A church visitation will be held today from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament-Church of St. Rose of Lima, 104 Catawba Ave., Newfield. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Vineland.
Arrangements are under the supervision of Rone Funeral Service, 1110 E. Chestnut Ave., Vineland.
