Lawrence Alvino Obituary

Lawrence "Burt" Alvino, 81, of Vineland went home to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, Jan. 14, 2013, at the South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Vineland.

The husband of Florence Miller Alvino (Capp), he was born in Pittsburgh and was the son of the late Henry and Elsie Alvino (Thomas). He was raised in Newfield and was a graduate of Vineland High School.

During the Korean War he served as a communication specialist in the infantry. He was an adept piano player and, during his service, he formed, toured and performed with the "Burt Alvino Quartet."

Mr. Alvino worked as a logistics supervisor for Caterina Supply Co. in Williamstown, where he oversaw the shipping department. He previously had worked for Columbia Culvert and Halmet.

He was a former member of the UPC church prior to joining Pearl Street Baptist Church in Bridgeton. "Burt" had previously served on the Cumberland County Board of Elections in Vineland and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 434 in Vineland.

"Burt" will be remembered for his example of kindness and generosity to those around him as well as always being the "life of the party." He enjoyed cooking and spending time in Cape May and Fortescue.

In addition to his wife of 36 years, he is survived by two sons, Ernie Miller of Vineland, and Danny Miller and his wife Tracey of Vineland; three grandchildren, Leanne Miller, Danny Miller Jr. and Derrick Miller; one sister-in-law, Trudy Scardino of Winslow; and two brothers, Joe Alvino and his wife Esther of California, and the Hon. Ernie Alvino and his wife Diane of Newfield. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Anna, Irene, Henry, Tom, Rudy, Dave, Viola "Yol," Gloria and Art.

Funeral services were held privately and at the convenience of the family.

The interment took place with military honors at the Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery in Hopewell Township.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Alvino's memory to the Pearl Street Baptist Church, 139 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton NJ 08302.
